Janke, Tradesmen shut out Wausau

Nov 29, 2020

Seven different goal scorers and the return of veteran goaltender Michael Janke powered the Oregon Tradesmen to a 7-0 victory over the Wausau RiverWolves Saturday night. The game was played at the Stateline Ice and Community Expo in Monroe.

Both teams played a clean, disciplined game with just two penalties whistled throughout, finishing in under two hours.

In the opening period two players scored their first of the season. Monroe native Payton Stauffacher lit the lamp for his first career Junior hockey goal at 13:10. It turned out to be the game winner for the 18-year old former Monroe High School standout.

Just :35 later it was Henry Slager who found the back of the net for the first time. Playing in just his fifth game with the Tradesmen, the 16-year old Slager has three points to his credit.

It took Parker Severson just :21 into the second period to net his team-high ninth tally of the season. Brent Edmondson and Zane VanZeeland also scored in the period extending the Oregon lead.

Third period goals from Dylan Dent and Devin Hays combined with a 31-save performance from goaltender Michael Janke powered the win.

For the veteran Janke, it was his first game back on the ice since March with the Coulee Region Chill. An injury has kept him off the ice until now. Last season, Janke posted 13 wins, a 2.96 GAA and .911 save% for the Chill under coach Don Babineau. Janke also spent time with the Minnesota Wilderness (NAHL) as a backup in January.

Next up for the Tradesmen (7-5-0-0) is a road trip to Missouri to face the St. Louis Jr. Blues (4-4-1-0). The teams will play at the iceZONE in Hazelwood, the practice site of the NHL St. Louis Blues.

Game one will be on Saturday at 4:00 PM. The teams will meet again on Sunday, December 6 at 1:00 PM.
